| Malaria (literally means “bad air”) is caused by a
protozoan of the genus plasmodium. more than a hundred species of this
parasite exist. But only four species cause human malaria: P.
falciparum, P. vivax, P. malariae, P. ovale. The protozone are
transmitted to humans by female mosquitoes of the genus Anopheles.
Dengue is a rich man’s disease as the condition is
caused by mosquitoes which breed in cool and clean water and
particularly refrigerated items.
Only female mosquitoes bite and suck blood. Males
feed on nector and other plant juices.
Elephantiasis it was the disease caused by
mosquitoes.
There are more than 3200 species of the mosquitoes
in the world and the list is increasing every year.
It is estimated that if ten mosquitoes bite a
person per night, the population of Delhi would be losing
approximately 300 litres of blood per night.
Due to of malaria it is estimated that 1.5 to 2.7 million people every
year.(roughly twice as many as AIDS) In every 12 seconds malaria
kills one person. in India 3 million people are affected out
of which 1000 people die. |
